Mentors and Leaders Hike for Health!
——————————————-
March 14, 2020: 7:40 AM PDT Advisory on CANCELLATION OF THIS HIKE: Due to rain showers forecast at the time designated for the hike, we regret to cancel this community get together event. We are doing this hike for community building and to encourage everyone to stay healthy. We need everyone to maintain a strong immune system, especially with the current threat of the Coronavirus COVID-19, and hiking in the rain does not serve our purpose. Please use the time to engage in other activities to keep yourself strong and healthy. See you at the next hike!
——————————————-
Join The Mentoring Club community as we hike for health and for social interactions that enrich our lives overall.
We plan to start the hike at the Stanford Avenue and Junipero Serra Blvd entrance and do about a 1.25-hour loop hike. The loop is about 3.5 miles with light to moderate hills, depending on the state of one’s physical fitness.
We are allocating 2 hours to provide for 10-15 minutes waiting time at the entrance and another 10-15 minutes stop at about half-way through the hike to do a group interaction. We would like to hear from anyone who would like to share some words of wisdom (anything under the sun), why they decided to join the hike, what their mentoring goals may be, or whatever help they can give or need in their current state of career and life.
Parking, Contacts, Logistics, Fees & Donations
Here are some tips for parking (refer to the map below for the areas where you can find parking):
-
The main parking area is along Stanford Avenue with diagonal parking slots close to the Junipero Serra intersection.
-
There are additional parallel parking slots on Stanford Avenue close to Lucille M. Nixon Elementary School.
-
Parking spaces may be available at Lucille M. Nixon Elementary School when the school doesn’t have any weekend event.
-
More street parking can be found along Raimundo Way on Allardice Way. Take note to avoid parking along streets that require permits.
Parking may sometimes be a challenge, especially if the school parking area is closed for a special event. Try to be in the area by 9:30am to provide ample time to look for parking.
Event Contact: Liesel Mendoza (408.803.2652)
Please text Liesel if you are running late and we will give you directions and updates on the hike.
Make sure you bring enough water to keep you hydrated during the hike. There’s no foliage cover throughout the trail. Apply sunscreen based on your preference. Wear light long sleeves and layer with a jacket. Please consider your physical condition and make sure you are able to handle a moderate or an intermediate-level hike.
There is no fee to attend this community hike.
Everyone is also encouraged to donate to The Mentoring Club using Eventbrite’s Donations when you register. Your donations will go a long way in building our capacity to sustain a robust organization that will support our global mentoring community. Thank you very much!
We are looking forward to meeting new friends, getting to know each other, and how The Mentoring Club could be helpful to your mentoring goals. See you on the trail!
Regarding Coronavirus COVID-19
The Mentoring Club recognizes that now more than ever, it is important to nourish not just mental and emotional health, but also physical health.
The Mentoring Club’s hike will continue despite the COVID-19 situation. We encourage everyone to exercise the following personal protective protocol to ensure that we limit our exposure and risk to the virus:
- Always observe social distancing during the hike
- Observe proper sneeze and cough etiquette
- We will form a semi-circle at our half-way stop for group interaction. If you are the speaker, speak from six (6) feet away from everyone in the group to lessen the chance of saliva droplets getting on other people.
If you are not feeling well or suspect that you have been exposed to someone who may be infected, please stay at home, quarantine yourself, and rest. Let us not risk your and other people’s health unnecessarily. Thank you very much.
