Mentoring Matters – March/April Talk (2020) Online Event

Date: April 23, 2020
Time: 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM PDT

Leveraging Your Network to Launch Your Career or Startup

——————————————-

March 16, 2020 Advisory on Coronavirus COVID-19:

  1. This event will be conducted completely online. We have updated the content of the announcement below to provide guidance on how you will receive the Zoom link to attend the online event.

  2. Due to the lockdown declared in many places in the United States and other parts of the world, we understand the need to focus on ourselves, our families, and loved ones, and to adjust our ways of life to this health and social crisis. To give all of us time to adapt to this changing environment, we are moving this session from March 26, 2020 to April 23, 2020.

  3. We recognize that challenges give rise to opportunities. Moving this event from in-person to online gives us an opportunity to also welcome attendees from anywhere in the world. We hope to welcome a global audience as we organize and prepare for this virtual event in April. We are thinking of ways to facilitate virtual networking among attendees. We will send guides to attendees in the coming days.

Do you have your eye on that dream role for your next career challenge? Have you found your inner passion? Are you realizing you are entrepreneurial and would like to take the leap into the world of startups?

It is very common for people to think they don’t have everything they need to get to where they want to be, but in most cases that is not reality. People will spend a lifetime, thinking about something or wanting to do something with the belief that is out of their grasp.

Clarity on the resources you have with you and available to you makes a huge difference in spelling success, whether as a manager or individual contributor or the lead founder of your business.

In this presentation, The Mentoring Club mentor, Shawn Flynn, will give insights into what you already have, can leverage, and can access with very little effort to get to where you want to be, now.

Meet Our Featured Mentor: Shawn Flynn

Shawn spent over four years living and conducting business in Beijing, China. After successfully founding and growing a profitable education company, he has since moved back to San Francisco to invest his experience, connections, and resources back into the startup ecosystem.

Shawn regularly works with incubators, accelerators, angel groups, venture capitalists (VC), local governments, and institutions to promote economic growth. He is the founder of Silicon Valley Successes, a television show that features Entrepreneurs and the people that work with them, and is the host of the Podcast Silicon Valley which is featured on the TIP Network. He is passionate about building a bridge that connects Silicon Valley and the rest of the world.

Event Recording, Refreshments, Fees & Donations

This event will be recorded and the recording will be used for marketing purposes. By participating in the online event, you agree to be recorded, such as but not limited to, when you are asking questions or stating comments.

Since this is an online event, we encourage you to prepare some refreshments at home that you can consume while joining us at the event. Please feel free to allow other members of your household to join us or do a watch party.

There is a $10 event fee per attendee to cover operational expenses.

Everyone is also encouraged to donate to The Mentoring Club using Eventbrite’s Donations when you register. Your donations will go a long way in building our capacity to sustain a robust organization that will support our global mentoring community. Thank you very much!

Online Event Information

As we receive registrations to this event, we will collect email addresses of attendees.

As the event date gets closer, we will be sending out the Zoom link for the event via email. Along with this information, we will send out a guide on how to gain the most out of the session.

We are aiming to give attendees the ability to chat with each other just like you would in an onsite networking event. Thus, we plan to keep the first 20-30 and the last 20-30 minutes of the event to online networking chat.

To make the networking event even more interesting, we are imagining now that the event is scheduled online, we could have the presence of attendees from many parts of the world. This should add some fun and interesting aspects of interactions to all of us participating in the event.

Regarding Coronavirus COVID-19

The Mentoring Club is monitoring guidance about the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic on a daily basis.

With the declarations of lockdown in many parts of the world and recently in the United States, including the Bay Area/Silicon Valley, where we are based out of and originally planned on conducting this event, we are moving this onsite event to completely online.

We support the lockdown response to the crisis geared towards flattening the Coronavirus COVID-19 curve (slowing the spread of the virus) and helping our healthcare systems manage their services and prevent them from experiencing enormous stress and potential collapse.

We encourage everyone to exercise the following personal protective protocol to ensure that we limit our exposure and risk to the virus: practice social distancing, eat healthy foods and supplements, get restorative sleep, and find creative ways to exercise indoors and follow your specific location’s official directives for exercising outdoors.

We hope everyone stays calm and informed, avoid panic, and most of all, enjoy the journey of learning despite the challenges of COVD-19.
