Consulting Book of Clichés: How to be Your Own Best Consultant (Online Event)

The hourly cost of business consulting fees can run from $150 per hour to many times that. Your investment could easily run into thousands of dollars for just a few weeks of support. Learning from other people’s experiences (e.g., mentors) may be the smartest way for you to be successful in your career and be your own best consultant. For an hour of your time, tuning into this session may be one of the best returns on your investments you can get.

The role of a mentor is to help those less experienced to learn from their successes, and maybe more importantly, from their mistakes.

In this journey we will explore just a few key approaches and insights from the soon to be released “Consulting Book of Clichés”. Through story-based scenarios we will explore the following:

Cliché 1: Learn from other people’s mistakes

Cliché 2: Got a minute

Cliché 3: Lead the witness

Cliché 4: Red flag early jeopardy

By definition, these clichés are certainly not original or breakthrough in their novelty, but they will provide a fundamental basis for you to work more effectively with your colleagues whether boss, subordinate or peer.

These techniques and tools were explored, tested, and adopted for over 15 years of consulting engagements by our speaker, Jeff Colvin. Jeff has worked with a diverse set of industries, organizations and individuals from the front lines to CEO’s as a management consultant and built his success on these practices.

Come with your current challenges or opportunities in mind and be prepared to take notes so that you too can apply these concepts to your real-world scenarios without having to pay exorbitant consulting fees. There will be time to dig deeper into your specific case with a question and answer session at the end of the presentation.

Online Event Information

As we receive registrations to this event, we will collect email addresses of attendees. As the event date gets closer, we will be sending out the Zoom link for the event via email. Along with this information, we will send out a guide on how to gain the most out of the session.

We are aiming to give attendees the ability to chat with each other just like you would in an onsite networking event. Thus, we plan to keep the first 20-30 and the last 20-30 minutes of the event to online networking chat.

To make the networking event even more interesting, we are imagining now that the event is scheduled online, we could have the presence of attendees from many parts of the world. This should add some fun and interesting aspects of interactions to all of us participating in the event.

Regarding Coronavirus COVID-19

The Mentoring Club is monitoring guidance about the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic on a daily basis.

With the declarations of lockdown in many parts of the world including the Bay Area/Silicon Valley where we are based out of and originally planned on conducting this event, we are moving this onsite event to completely online.

We support the lockdown response to the crisis geared towards flattening the Coronavirus COVID-19 curve (slowing the spread of the virus) and helping our healthcare systems manage their services and prevent them from experiencing enormous stress and potential collapse.

We encourage everyone to exercise the following personal protective protocol to ensure that we limit our exposure and risk to the virus: practice social distancing, eat healthy foods and supplements, get restorative sleep, and find creative ways to exercise indoors and follow your specific location’s official directives for exercising outdoors. We hope everyone stays calm and informed. Avoid panic, and most of all, enjoy the journey of learning despite the challenges of COVD-19.
